The Elizabethtown Ice Hockey Club was formed in 1996 and has been able to field a highly competitive hockey team at the varsity level for all of those seasons, having made the playoffs consecutively over the last several years. The Bears hope to build on their success from last year, when they were Tier 2 semi-finalists.
The Bears will once again be under the leadership of Head Coach Steve Lokey who returns for his 4rd season. This season marks a turning of the page in the program as no less than 8 players graduated last year; fortunately, there are 5 9th grade students ready to jump in, all 5 with years of ice hockey experience. Those players are Tyler Christian, Austin Farwell, Voight Demeester, Brady Dolan and J.T. Drescher. Other new players are Cameron Mullen and Matt Weidman, both 11th grade students.
The returning players are led by defenseman and co-captain Michael VanHorn, a 2008-2009 CPIHL all-star, co-captain Derrick Anderson, Brandon Lancaster and Lindsey Shuler. The afore-mentioned are all seniors this year. Other returning skaters are junior Steven Dombrosky and sophomore C.C. Davis.
The goaltending is in the capable hands of returning junior Brent Boyer and sophomore newcomer Joe Dempsey.
The Bears are excited and ready to continue their tradition and take a strong run for this year’s Viola Cup. |
