After a tough year at Tier 1 in 2010 - 2011, the Manheim Township Ice Hockey Club returns to Tier 2 for the 2011 - 2012 season. With five players graduating from last years squad, the team will be depending on its returning senior and junior classes to pick up their play and lead the team on a run for the Viola Cup.
The Blue Streaks will be looking first to rebuild its back end as three of the five graduating players were defensemen. Returning goalies Will Pearson (sr.) and Brandon Davis (jr.) will anchor the team in net, while senior Phil Sapp and juniors Alex Busque, Dalton Dougherty, and Grant Mcllwaine will form the corps of players patrolling the blueline. The defense will get help from freshman Steven Burnett.
The offense this year will come from an experienced group of forwards. Lead by seniors Cam Loula, Steven Tessier, and Zack Peterson and juniors Chad Neiss, Alex Mahajan, and Ricky Beauchamp, the Steaks are hoping to have an explosive line-up of goal scorers.
The coaching staff of head coach Chris Busque and assistant coaches Dave Loula and Grant Beauchamp look to turn around a team which struggled to score goals and keep the puck out of their net last year. The move to Tier 2 will certainly help get the Blue Steaks back on a winning course, but the coaches have their targets set on getting the Township program back to the Tier 1 level. The players are ready for the challenge.
