 The 2009/2010 Middletown Blue Raiders are looking to improve on their 5/12/1 record from last season. The Raiders only lost one graduating senior from last years team while adding a few new players.
Middletown boasts six returning and one new senior. Leading the Blue Raiders will be senior captain Cody Helwig. Cody has been near the top in CPIHL scoring every year and is looking forward to do the same this year. Other returning seniors include speedy assistant captain Dylan Krupilis, Mick Clock who has looked better every week, Robby Ryan who’s known for his great passing and finishing skills, Marc Breon who has show great skill every shift he’s been on the ice and defenseman Kenny Martinez – Kenny’s stature alone earns him respect, he’s 6’11” on skates. New to the team this year is senior Todd Degan. The first year player joins the team from the roller hockey ranks and has adapted to ice hockey very quickly.
Middletown Head coach Ron Helwig is looking forward to a big year from juniors Ryan James and Michael Lewis. James, a crafty forward that has size and smarts, returns for his second varsity season. Michael Lewis, a finalist in the 2007/08 CPIHL Skills Competition (in his freshman year), is back after taking a year off to concentrate on travel hockey.
The sophomore class has seven players that have been playing together since sixth grade. Back for their second season on the varsity team are goaltender Joey Owens, defenseman Paris Burkett, assistant captain and defenseman Dylan Grim, defenseman Ryan Trafecanty, forward Brendon Parkhill, defenseman Trevor Thompson and forward Quincy Dukes.
Freshman Matt Epply is the lone ninth grader added to the club this year. Matt is a solid defenseman that showed he belonged on the varsity team since the Raider’s summer camp.
The Blue Raiders are coached by second year head coach Ron Helwig. Helwig is assisted by Kevin White and Middletown Hockey alumnus Jeff Dukes Jr. |
