The 2009 Viola Cup Champions are excited to hit the ice this fall as they make their move to Tier 1 competition. After a triumphant 5-4 overtime win on February 27th over Annville-Cleona, the Red Land Patriots captured the Viola Cup through hard work, dedication, and perseverance; essential skills Coach Joe Kowalczyk emphasized in his practices and games. The team's success is expected to carry-over this year, the Patriots’ 10th in the CPIHL.
Alongside Coach Joe Kowalczyk is returning Coach Jim D'Angelo and new Coach Steve Hallman. Coach D'Angelo returns from last year’s Viola Cup coaching staff and has demonstrated his commitment to excellence by leading the Red Land Patriots' JV team to two consecutive first place finishes over the past two seasons. In his first season coaching with the Patriots, Coach Hallman wishes to bring his knowledge and coaching values to the Red Land team.
After the loss of 10 seniors at the end of last season, this season brings a quartet of seniors include towering defenseman John Geesey, who led last year’s juniors in points with 23, third overall. On the front line is Corey Fink, who after missing a majority of last season due to injury, will bring his strong work ethic and physical play to this year’s fore check. Cameron Norman returns with lighting speed and skill adding a quick strike aspect to Red Land’s offense. Joby Kowalczyk returns from last year’s 22 point season, bringing an indomitable attitude and spirit with him. The speed of Red Land’s front line combined with its powerful defense, superb goaltending, and a shared value of teamwork will prove successful in this upcoming season, another great season for the Red Land Patriots. |
