CPIHL Playoff Rules 2012 - 2013 Season
1. Games will go full time, no reduced time in third period unless the
6 goal rule is in effect.
2. The 10 goal rule will be in effect, and the mercy rule will be applied
during the 3rd period, except on Championship night.
3. Ties at the end of regulation during playoffs will result in a sudden
death 5 minute 4 on 4 (4 skaters and a goalie). Penalties do carryover
into the sudden death overtime. At no time can a team participate with
less than 4 players (traditionally 3 skaters and a goalie). If a carryover
penalty or penalty called in sudden death puts a team at less than the
minimum the penalized player(s) time will be put on clock and non-offending
team will have equivalent number of player(s) added to their on ice amount.
At the conclusion of the penalty the player(s) will return to the ice
as normal but at the next stoppage of play the on ice count will go back
to the reduced amount depending on which sudden death the game is in.
4. If there remains a tie at the end of the 1st overtime, the second overtime
will result directly in a 5 man shootout.
5. Selection of the shooters that are to participate in the shootout must
be designated at the end of regulation and listed on the score sheet prior
to the 1st overtime. Each team will designate a number 1 through 5 beside
shootout participant’s names on the score sheet. Players 1 through
3 will shoot in the order indicated on the score sheet, starting with
player 1. If a tie score still exists after the 3rd player from each team
has taken part in the shootout, the shootout will continue as a sudden
death shootout beginning with the 4th player from each team’s list
until one team has outscored the other after each player has had the chance
to shoot. If there remains a tie after all 5 shooters have gone from both
teams, the order will restart with the same players in order from 1-5
in a sudden death format until there is a clear winner. Once shootout
starts if any player is unable to take part in the shootout through injury,
penalty, or game ejection, all players immediately below will advance
one position in the shootout rotation.
6. Overtime on all Championship Games. At the end of regulation on all
Championship Games, overtime will be a sudden death 16 minute, stopped
clock period. If there is still a tie after the 4th period, another 16
minute sudden death period will be placed on the clock. This format on
all Championship Games will continue period after period until there is
a clear winner.
Notes
1. From the rules minor penalties with time remaining do not exclude a
player from participating in shootouts.
2. Examples of rule 3 - 4 on 4 Sudden Death Overtime
If team A has one minor penalty at the conclusion of regulation and team
B has no penalties than the 4 on 4
will start 4 on 3, penalized player will re-enter game at the conclusion
of the penalty.
If team A has two minor penalties at the conclusion of regulation and
team B has no penalties than the 4 on
4 will start 5 on 3, penalized player(s) will re-enter game at the conclusion
of their penalties. At the next
stoppage of play if there are no other penalties play will resume 4 on
4.
